About Cabrillo National Monument, San Diego's National Park, is home to sensitive Coastal Mediterranean and fascinating rocky intertidal habitats. Join staff marine ecologist Dr. Benjamin Pister and the Cabrillo National Monument tidepool monitoring team for a unique, behind the scenes, hands-on look at this important component of the Vital Signs Monitoring Program at San Diego's National Park. Learn how park scientists and visiting researchers study and care for plants, reptiles and amphibians, small mammals, birds, terrestrial and marine invertebrates, lichens, weather, water and air quality. This is a unique opportunity for 6 volunteers (2 per day) to work alongside Dr. Benjamin Pister and his team.
Pre-Registration Required Space is very limited and you must apply by February 15, 2009, to be considered. To apply, please send an email to Benjamin_Pister@nps.gov. Subject Line: Become a Scientist for a Day! In your email, please indicate your availability between March 6-8, explain why you would like to participate in this program, and include your name, phone number and e-mail address. Participants must be 18 years or over and must sign a National Park Service Volunteers-In-Parks (VIP) Agreement to participate. About Join scientists conducting ongoing research into the threatened coastal mediterranean and fragile rocky intertidal (tidepool) habitat, flora and fauna of Cabrillo National Monument, San Diego's National Park, and learn the most up-to-date status of the findings and results of their research. All presentations will take place on Saturday, March 28, 2009 between 10:00 AM and 4:30 PM in the Cabrillo National Monument visitor center auditorium. This program is open to the general public, but will be most suitable for middle schools students to adult. Public transportation (#84 bus) is available hourly to the park.
